Hi
I'm trying to create a rainbow heart rate style wave with rounded peaks and flatlines. But I haven't a clue where to start and is illustrator the righ place?
The colours need to be stack on top of each other with no gaps between them
Would appreciate a little direction as to which tool/process to use.

Draw and colour seven stacked rectangles. Drag them to the brushes panel and create an art brush. Apply it to any path.

Based on another (mis)interpretation, with the colouring reflecting the height/amplitude, you can:
1) Create a sufficiently large (Group of) rectangle(s) and apply the colouring to that, either with bands of solid colours or with soft transitions (both can be made with a linear gradient),
2) Move/create the wave (maybe best made with the Pen Tool) in front of the rectangle (Group) from 1), then select both and Ctr/Cmd+7 to create a Clipping Mask/set.

Definatly look up an authentic heart rythm. you probably don't want your artwork to reflect a heart attack or a dying patient.
