Hello,
I'm on on windows 10 - Illustrator CS5
This morning I opened a file that made my dialog and preference boxes go wrong.
I cannot ask for a new document or any preference changes or technics inside Illustrator. The box is either there or hidden. When it's there it's impossible to get any informations from it or resize it. It is blank and with a strange shape and nothing is written inside.
I tried many different things, but none of them worked :
-uninstall-reinstall the application
-erase the AI pref file
-the keyboard alt-shift-maj to erase the preferences
-change the resolution of the screen to (maybe) see the dialog box
If you have any clue, please tell me
Thank you
I was having the same issue. I uninstalled the Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4022725) and the issue was resolved for me.

Two ideas that MAY work to install and/or run old programs in Windows 10
-RIGHT click the program icon or EXE and select a compatibility mode in the pop up option window
-or Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395 to assign FULL Windows permissions may help... says Encore, but sometimes required for ALL Adobe programs (this is NOT the same as using an Administrator account)

Hi Cedric,
It's generally not recommended that you run an older software version like CS5 on a newer OS like Windows 10. Under our system requirements page for CS5, only up to Windows 7 is officially supported. System requirements | Adobe Illustrator
John's suggestions are worth a try, but it may prove difficult to get CS5 working 100% unless you install an older OS.
Let us know if we can help with anything else!
Best,
Wren

It's really strange because I've been on Windows 10 for more than 6 months using the same version of Illustrator. It happened suddenly by opening a file....

I'm having the same problem. I'm glad and sad I'm not the only one. Please let me know if you find a solution or a work around. Unfortunately, it's affecting all the dialog boxes making the program virtually impossible to use now.
I believe this started happening to me right after windows 10's last forced update.

I think I found something to resolve a part of the problem.
It might be the consequence of a font previously installed.
So I zipped all my fonts and copied it somewhere. And erased all the fonts that were not system ones in the specific folder. Rebooted the computer and opened Illustrator during the boot. It actually worked. The dialog windows are there, I cans see them. But I have to do that every morning......

Thanks very much! I had to restart for the uninstall to take effect, however, and the machine took that opportunity to... install updates. *headdesk*

Ugh, this is the 2nd time this dialogue box problem has happened to me after a Win 10 update. I'm hoping I can find the update function to turn it off...
