Illy 29.6.1 (64)
Windows 11, up-to-date, 32 Gig RAM, Core i7 3.5, plenty of HD space
I am working on a job that requires heavy use of guides. Illustrator is making guides dissapear every time the cursor touches them. I use CNTRL+: to bring them back then the when there is a cursor touch, it'as the same thing again. I am working over a holiday weekend to meet a deadline and am at a standsstill.
Can someone help?
Thanks to those who know more than me,
Joe

@Joseph374224441v8g by any chance did you turn on to View - 'Show Guides'
Try to disable real-time drawing and editing. This setting, while intended to improve performance by showing real-time previews of objects as you move them, can cause issues with guides because guides technically have no fill or stroke. When you interact with them, Illustrator sometimes "blanks" them out in real-time preview. After disabling this, your guides should remain visible even when your cursor hovers over them.

Creative, thanks for your response. I disabled "real-time drawing" and the problem did not go away, so I disabled "animated zoom" and then the GPU and on each attempt, the problem still persisis.
Thanks,
Joe

@Joseph374224441v8g try resetting the Illsutaror preferences.... or if you feel adventurous, you can physically delete those from your computer too!

I did reset preferences (twice). All to no avail.

I'm switching the job over to InDesign since all my parts are built. But I'd sure like to address the Illy issue.

Is the driver for your computer's GPU up to date?

Hello @Joseph374224441v8g,
I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I hope Bobby's suggestions to update the GPU(s) drivers (Intel / NVIDIA / AMD) and set the Graphics Preference to High-Performance for Illustrator (https://adobe.ly/40100EY) helped resolve the problem. If not, kindly confirm if Illustrator behaves this way with specific files, try running Illustrator under a different administrator account (Windows) and share your observations.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
