Hi,

I just switched back to an old mac and opened an ai. doc that I had been working on using a different computer.  To my dismay, all the text turned to outlines. This was definitely not something I did... I still have to edit the text in the document.

Can anyone help and tell me if it can be turned back to text? 🙏🏽

When you open an AI file on an older version, Illustrator opens the embedded PDF.  This is how AI files work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpDh8Y7q8yE

In the PDF, text might get outlined automatically. The only way to get full editablity is to open the file in at least the same version it has been created in. You can try and open the AI file in Acrobat (no need to change the file name or extension for that, just drop it on the Acrobat icon). Then try if you can export or copy the text there.

Thanks a lot for the answer! I updated the version of Illustrator and the file opened in the editable version 🙂
