Does anyone know if Illustrator has the option to "crop image data to frames", like InDesign does?

Hello all,

I have a file that I need to tile into two halves. It uses the same image. When I save it to a pdf the files are huge because the image, although has a clipping mask, it still saves the whole thing. InDesign has an option to crop image data to the frames. I don't see that feature in Illustrator. Does anyone have a solution or workaround that would give me the same results?

No, currently this is not available in Illustrator (strictly speaking, there are no frames in Illustrator).

However, you can crop images manually.

Yes, I knew that was there, but I wanted to achieve the same thing as in InDesign without it being destructive.

Maybe it should be something that Adobe can look inot. From a production stand point it would be a plus.

Also, by cropping the image it embedds it and no longer is a linked file. I personally don't like that.
