Double clicking in adobe illustrator doesn't work on my desktop...Why?

When I double click in Adobe Illustrator it doesn't work on my desktop computer but it does work on my laptop.  Does anyone know why this would be?

Double clicking to isolate an object?

That needs to be turned on in Preferences > General.
