Duplication of artboard numbers - Illustrator 28.7.1

It's Sept 25, 2024, and Adobe Illustrator 28.7.1. still has the duplicate-artboard-numbering bug. Good news: The solution I've found that still works since AI 26 of yore is to quite AI, restart machine, open the AI file of issue, and voila - the artboard numbers are in the correct sequence. Bad news: You still have to deal with it.

If it happens again I'm happy to post screenshots. Again these are giant AI files with 200+ artboards where the duplication in artboard numbering occurs. There's plenty of copy/paste artboards going on with the file.

There are plenty of posts and screenshots of this same issue you can find yourself within past posts in the community. There is a litany of history with the issue.

I'm aware of many of the other posts on this issue. What they all lack is a method of consistently reproducing the error.

The common denominator for all the posts is gargantuan AI files with 200+ artboards.

If I had to guess - has something to do with copying artboards vs creating new artboards using the tool.

Again - whenever I can create another 2 GB Ai file, I'd love to post an example.

I'd be happy to. However it took me almost 4 weeks to build this AI file with over 248 artboards on it.

This issue occurs with the more intense AI files with many artboards.
