Edit path directly with paintbrush

Community Beginner ,
Jan 24, 2025 Jan 24, 2025

There will be times when I have the painbrush tool active, and I draw next to a selected drawn path/shape, it will - by accident - edit that one according to how I draw. I'd like to do that on purpose now. Does anyone know how? Thank you in advance!

You currently do not have a brush (from the brushes panel) applied to that path. Can you try that? First apply a brush and then use the brush tool?

If you do not want to change the stroke of the path first, then you could check out the pencil tool instead of the brush tool.

When you double click the brush tool in the tool panel you should see the relevant options.

Hi Monika, I looked at the options - and this is what I have.

It still doesn't directly edit the path.

And the path is seected?

When drawing with the brush tool: do you click and drag on the path?

How large is the object you want to edit?

You are in isolation mode - are you also trying to edit in isolation mode?

Under 200px wide and tall. And yes, i've tried it in isolation mode, and I've also ungrouped it so it's just a path on its own. Here's a video: https://youtu.be/xmuSaxmzz1A

That is so weird. Can you perhaps share a file that contains this object?

Rename the file extension to .pdf then you can upload it here. It's already late around here, so I will leave for today, but hopefully someone can investigate.

I have the brush on "basic" on my end. I tried the pencil tool instead, it worked! Thank you, Monica! I appreciate your help!

Glad you could solve it!

Basic is not a brush. The basic setting deletes the brush. The name of that setting is not chosen very well.
