Editing pdf in Illustrator

Hello there!

My question: What shall I do to edit my file in Illustrator again?

The story: I have worked in Illustrator and I have finalized the file as PDF. Once I tried to open the pdf in Illustrator a little window opened, saying: "Open PDF. Select a page from the PDF to open...(Rest of the message could be seen here: http://file:///Users/zsokaliptak/Desktop/Screen%20Shot%202017-11-10%20at%200.14.02.png​

I was unable to edit the file.

So the question again: What shall I do to edit the PDF file again in Illustrator?

I could not see your image.

The native file format is .ai for Adobe Illustrator, illustrator is not made to edit .pdfs. If you plan to edit a .pdf in illustrator again make sure you check, that will help.

Best though that you open a .pdf and save immediately to .ai format if you wish to try using illustrator to edit pdfs.

Can you post a copy of he pdf using a dropbox or similar ftp link. I have a few workarounds which might work such as opening the .pdf in acrobat and exporting.

I know that ai would have been the best to save the file, but I used this way many times and there was no problem with the reopening before.

If there is a chance to repair the file somehow I will never save my work to PDF, if I still want to edit it. But there is too late to think about that.

Hello Zsoka,

Got your file, and this is a multipage pdf. Not sure how you worked with this before. Did you use a script to convert pdf pages to multiple illustrator artboards. I tried the oldscript I had, but that eroded out and gave me not results.

But you should be able to open 1 page at a time

You will like;y get font error, and this is one of many reason opening a .pdf in illustrator is not a good as opening the native .ai format. Layers are lost, you get extra masks, on items, type blacks are broken up.

If I place the file as .pdf, I get the fonts correctly, but cannot edit.

Yes, it was definitely not a great idea to save the artboards into PDFs. I was trying to kill two birds with one stone. This is a presentation too.
