Hi, we work with xml content in a CMS. For illustrations, we use the SVG file format, and any raster content is embedded. Sometimes, the embedded raster images receive edge lines when the PDF is rendered. The lines are 1) often only on some of the edges, 2) most often only visible on screen and not in print, and 3) only visible with certain zoom factors. Does anyone have any explanation or solution?

Please tell us the exact steps of what is happening and exactly when the edge lines appear and in which applications they show up.
Is this happening when viewing the PDF directly after saving it from Illustrator? Because if not, there's probably nothing that can be done about it in Illustrator.

The PDF is not created in Illustrator. The SVG illustrations (with or without embedded raster content) are imported into the Astoria CMS, referenced into DITA XML files, and then the assembled books are used for rendering PDF through applications in the CMS.

In that case unfortunately you'll have to investigate those components that create the final PDF.
Maybe in the Acrobat forum they have clues to that or someone is using one or more of those components and give you a hint. https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat/ct-p/ct-acrobat?page=1&sort=latest_replies&lang=all&tabid=all
