EPS files placed in Illustrator are converting to images

Previously I have been able to create an EPS in InDesign (panels of text) and place into my Illustrator file as a linked EPS. Now, when I do the same, the placed EPS is converting to illustraor text and lines. I don't want it to do this as I want to be able to update the link and change it  on  each page.

Not sure why its started doing this, or am I missing something?

I think I've just worked it - theres an option when importing EPS into Illustrator, right at the bottom, to import as a linked file. Not sure if its a new option or whether it was there before and the default was to be on.

Hello @alicatdesign,

Would you mind sharing a sample EPS file here, along with screenshots of the problem, so I can try to replicate it?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
