I have a large number of charts to produce in Illustrator and the data has been supplied as Google Sheets. When I try to paste rows of data into the Line Charts or Column Charts, sometimes it pastes into a single cell, rather than into rows, other times it works fine. I've tried a number of work arounds, inc exporting Google Sheet to Excel, pasting the data into Illustrator using text tool first. The only way that works reliably is to export as a tab delimited file and then use the import function in the Chart Data interface. This will take me a long time to set up for each chart I need to produce.
I'm using Version 23.0.6 on Mac OS 10.13
Any assistance greatly appreciated.
I had this issue also, until i realised that CAPS LOCK causes this to ocur.

The chart function is a dinosaur compared to Google Sheets.
So there's probably not a lot you can do about it.
Does the data paste well into an Excel chart?

Yes, it's fine. I've exported from Sheets to a .xlsx file.
It's just incredibly flaky – It will work one time and then not the next, and the next, and the next ... and then start working again. So frustrating and I'll blow my budget if I have to manually reconfigure the data into individual tab delimited files to import into the Graph Data interface.
I'm dying here.

That describes the nature of the charts function pretty well.

I'm assuming that the data that works is different than the data that does not work, right? or is it the same data that sometimes work and sometimes it doesn't?
if the former then, maybe the supplied data has different format. Try removing formatting in Google Sheets before copying to see if that helps.
I couldn't reproduce your issue unfortunately. I'm on Windows and it works fine with the simple test I made.
