Extra ai and pdf files appearing in folder

Illustrator 26.1 on 24" iMac running Monterey 12.1

Leaving multiple .ai and .pdf files in the folder after each save. How do I stop it doing this, the temp files usually disappear after you shut the document.

Try and turn off "Save in Background" in the preferences.

But also: which location is that? Is there perhaps the server doing its own thing?

Yes, I found that turning off the "Save in background" preference stopped the problem occuring.

Sure my work resides on a server but this has not happened before I changed machines and upgraded Illustrator so can't help feeling this is an Adobe issue.
