Find and replace fonts as an action

New Here ,
Apr 07, 2025 Apr 07, 2025

I'm trying to automate finding and replacement certain fonts as an action in Illsutrator. After recording, I tried to play the action, but it only opened the Find and Replace font window without changing the fonts. I still have to manually select the source and target fonts myself.

Is there a way where I can actually get Actions to do this?

@WSICH Unfortunately, Illustrator Actions generally cannot record the specific selections you make with dialog boxes like the "Find and Replace Font" window. You could try using the Preflight panel with a defined profile? Create a custom Preflight Profile that flags the specific fonts you want to replace for example Myriad with Arial. Then, when you run the Preflight on your document, it will list these fonts. While this doesn't directly replace them automatically through an Action, it provides a focused list of the problematic fonts. You can then use the "Find Font" dialog (Type > Find Font...) with the Preflight results visible, making the manual replacement process much quicker and more targeted.

That should actually work with an action.

To prevent the modal dialog from appearing, you'd have to disable the modal dialog icon on the left of the action name.
