In the latest version, illusator renders the font as in the picture.

Anyone know why? It's bug?Screen Shot 2021-03-17 at 12.43.59 PM.png

Adobe says "(...) stability fixes" ; )

Perhaps they mean the emotional stability of the users : )

I have tried this.

I have also tried other variable fonts (Acumin variable concept), which show this effect a well, but not in that extent. It might be inherent to variable fonts, but might also be general problems of handling them in Adobe software.

I would ask  about this in type design forums. You could also try  https://community.adobe.com/t5/type-typography/bd-p/type-and-typography?page=1&sort=latest_replies&f...

I just tried with standard and variable version of Raleway type. It looks the same.
Perhaps it is because of the font, although it looks good in photoshop.

Yes, I've seen that.

When suggesting that you post in "Typography" I wasn't thinking of posting this exact issue, but that you ask if this is known to be a general issue with varable fonts. Soa more broad question and not narrowed down to Illustrator.

You could of course also  post this as a bug and let the developers check it out. But this doesn't look like a general issue in Illustrator, because other variable fonts don't display this behaviour in that extent. It must also be related to the specific font. So some font knowledge is needed to sort it out.
