Glow around blurred circle

I'm trying to create a blurred circle which will sit on top of a gradient background but I keep getting this white glow around the blur. I just want it to blur blue - how do I achieve this?

What appearance settings did you use for the blur? Is it a RGB or CMYK document?

Hi Doug,

I have just used Gaussain Blur on the circle and it is a CMYK document with Overprint preview on as I will be sending this to a print company.

You can try Multiply or Darken blend mode.
