Gradient anchor points?

Hi everybody, I've been going crazy for HOURS now because I can't find a way to fix this...

I'm designing a logo and tried adding a gradient, looked fine. But later I wanted to add an extra swirl to a letter so I took away the appearances, added the object (can't even connect the S to the swirl but that's an other problem as well, lol) and wanted to add back the appearances but the S gets all weird? I tried making Offset paths to 0, which I thought had worked but the problem still remains and now even to the other letters sometimes. I'll probably start over but I'm afraid to use gradients now. Can anyone help me out? šŸ˜ž

In order to have a gradient accross all the objects, first ungroup all. Then select all and make a compound path. Then apply the gradient.

If that still does not work, please show us the objects inside the layers panel. And also the appearance panel.

When you apply a gradient to the S what happens instead of the gradient being applied?

NOTE: I also tried deleting those blue line anchor line things but that doesn't work. I also noticed my letters had lots of extra layers due to all the offset paths and tried deleting every one of the weird layers as well but that doesn't work either...

Can you please show the gradient before and after?

What kind of gradient was it? If a Freeform gradient, then unfortunately this is as designed. You will have to redo the gradient in the new shape.

I made the gradient with the gradient tool which worked fine but the objects can't be expanded and the S with the swirl is the only object that also can't add an appreance effect
