How can I create a wireframe black hole look in Adobe Illustrator?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to create a wireframe black hole effect in Adobe Illustrator, starting with a square shape on the outside. I'm aiming for a spiral, 3D grid that gets darker as it goes inward. Any tips on tools or techniques to achieve this? Thanks!

The thing in your example could be created with some blends. 

I'm not quite sure I understand the design you want to create.
