How do I keep the font panel popup open after I have selected a font? Right now, when I select a font, the popup closes and I have to start the scrolling process all over again if I want to select a different font. In older versions of illustrator, I remember I was able to keep the font panel open. Please help!

If I'm understanding your question correctly, instead of using the Character panel popup in the Control panel, use the actual Character panel or the new Properties panel.

If you're referring to the Fonts popup menu in the Control panel or in any other panel, I don't think that ever stayed open after clicking off of it. But there is a scroll bar to the far right of the popup menu that allows you to scroll really quickly through the menu.

The problem is that as soon as I select a font, the scrolling dropdown font menu dissapears. Which means that if I want to select a different font, I will have to scroll through all my fonts again. Since the dropdown menu does not remember the last font selected, the menu starts with the letter "A" alphabetically. It's such a pain. Why doesn't the dropdown font menu start at the last font I selected?

You may want to post this as a feature request. Use the following link: Adobe Illustrator Feedback

In the meantime, you could use Paragraph and/or Characters Styles and not have to return to the Font menu so much.  Applying a Style is a single click, NO scrolling at all.

You use the character panel from the control panel or properties panel?

Try Window > Type > Characters

Hi, did you solve this? I have the same question. I knew how to do that long ago but forgot now.

If you want the Character panel to stay open, then go to Window > Characters.

Also: if you whave the Character panel docked on the right side and also set up the docked panels iconized, then there is a setting in the preferences which will auto collapse Iconice panels. That settings needs to be turned off.
