how do I move a text from one layer and move it to a new layer on illustrator web?

Hi.  I'm new on Illustrator.  I need help please on iLLustrator Web Beta.  I'm trying to move a set of text from a template layer to a new layer. The template layer contains the text and the background color.  How do I do that on Illustrator web?  Not sure which tool to use.  Thank you.

If you make a new layer and the template layer is unlocked, you should be able to select it with the selection tool (black arrow) and then in the layers panel, grab the text layer and drag it to the layer you want it to appear in.

Thank you for this but when I select the text with the selection tool, it only selects everything on the template layer instead of just the text.  The template has a colored square and the text is on top of it.  I can't grab the text to move to the next layer as the Selection tool selects everything.
