These are 2 facing transparent artboards, with 2 frames with a black fill on them. The frames have no outlines, so the light border is not an outline.
What is it?

Please check beforehand whether the sizes and positions of your two artboards are really exactly the same size and on integer positions.

How do I check if they are on integer positions?
Artboards are the same size and in the same positions.

What do you mean by "right path marked"?
Should the frames be visible?

Copied
Your right path is not exactly aligned with the right artboard in size and/or position..

How do I align it?

Ah "align to artboard", I hope it will work.

It didn't work.
Now it's perfectly aligned, but the issue still persists.
You don't have this issue?

It just shows an unselected artboard. Why do you want to remove it? Does it print, export?

No I don;t think it prints, but it's bugging my eyes.
Do you want 1 px lines in your way?

It does not bother me, but you can hide artboards.

Managed to hide artboards (reopened the file), now my Trim View is inactive.

Trim View only works when artboards are not hidden.
that is a mistake, they are just hidden, yet the software thinks they are not there. they could be there as transparent perhaps?

You guys are using higher resolution screens I think, I am on an HD screen, so that border is much more visible for me.

It's a display anomaly/bug. I've seen this for years at certain display percentages, usually around 1600% and above, and it depends on what monitor you are looking at it on. It tends to show up on high-pitch monitors (like an iMac Retina screen). It's actually the background artboard display that's off; the objects are fine. If you zoom in to a percentage where you see the "line", switch to outline mode and you will see the object properly lines up with the edge of the artboard.
I remember seeing this reported on the bugs list before, but obviously nothing has happened to fix it.
