How do I turn off marquee zoom in Illustrator?

Sometimes randomly when I use the zoom shortcut (Shift + Space and drag up down to zoom) it randomly changes into marquee zoom, and drags a rectangle and zooms into it. I don't want it, it's bloody annoying and disorientating. How do I turn it off? The search results online only show how to turn it ON, but I want to turn it OFF, is it possible?

Does not seems to fix it for me, didn't try to restart illustrator but it would be annoying when you suddenly cannot drag and zoom(drag right to zoom in, left to zoom out like in adobe ps) and had to restart illustrator just to disable the random marquee zoom

Welp cannot delete nor edit post, since then here is another solution if your preference > performance > animated zoom is turned on and you still have your marquee zoom, go to View (on the left of Window & and on the right of Effect) on the top of your illustrator and untick overprint preview, idk about other previews, but my drag zoom doing fine without any previews ticked

The only way I have been able to get it to reset to animated zoom is by shutting down the program and restarting. Very annoying.

I'm having the same problem, its driving me crazy. It switches to Marquee Zoom every time I edit the artboard in anyway, using the artboard tool. I've downloaded much older versions and it still happens. Please somebody help before I lose the plot!

No, as GPU is still ticked. I don't know what else to try.

Hi @rebeccac23227987

This definitely doesn’t seem like the expected behavior. Could you try toggling between GPU and CPU preview by pressing CTRL+E (Windows) or CMD+E (Mac) to see if that helps?

If that doesn’t resolve the issue, I’d recommend resetting your preferences. You can follow the steps provided here.

We understand how frustrating this can be, and we’re here to assist you!

Regards,

Srishti

Hello, I tried both of these things but nothing worked. The issue appears
to be that every time I use the artboard tool it switches to CPU, and
animated zoom stops working. Why would it instantly revert to CPU? Is there
another way of switching back to GPU? Or another kind of update or reset I
can try?

Hi  @rebeccac23227987,

I’m really sorry to hear you’re facing this issue. To help investigate further, could you kindly share a screen recording showing exactly what happens when you switch to the artboard tool and it reverts to CPU? Additionally, we’d appreciate it if you could provide your system info file. These will allow us to get more insights and share them with the product team to identify a solution. Let us know if you need any help gathering these files!

Steps for getting System Info file:

  1. Press and hold down the Windows key.
  2. Press the R key.
  3. In the search field, type msinfo32
  4. Press the Enter button
  5. In the upper left corner of the new window, click on File
  6. Select Save
  7. In the left-hand column, click Desktop
  8. In the File Name field, type msinfo
  9. Click the Save button

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Anshul Saini

The same thing happens every time I edit an artboard using the artboard tool. Switches to marquee zoom and can't switch it back. I've tried older versions and it keeps happening. Literally driving me crazy.
