How to align objects correctly & equally?

Im a photoshop guy and just started with illustrator yesterday. So i was playing around pen tool & shapes then decided to try and mirror an object but i can't seem to align them together correctly. It kept snapping on the wrong spot.

What did i do wrong? Or how should i do it correctly? Learning to improve, any help or tips is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is View > Snap to Pixel on?
