How to easily combine shapes

The attached image shows a geomtetric pattern I have created from right angles triangles in Illustrator. When I bring this into Photoshop, you can see all the edges of the triangles, which is annoying because the triangles do not have an outline. The same thing happens if I use the pattern in an Indesign document and create a pdf – in Acrobat, you can see the edges of the triangles.

My question is – is there an easy way to merge the triangles that are next to each other and the same colour into single shapes (as in the second attched image)? I know I can do this by clicking on one, and then shift clicking the others, and using the 'unite' shape mode in pathfinder. But this takes forever as there are lots of them!
