How to turn off X selection tool

Community Beginner ,
Sep 28, 2024 Sep 28, 2024

As you can see, I have drawns some objects that I need to edit.  Every time I click into the workspace to edit, I get the X and entire box is selected.  I can't get back within the drawing to fix (fill in the pants, delete extra shapes, etc.).

This is probably my 4th day of AI.  Thank you for your hlep.

I believe you may have posted in the wrong forum. This is the Adobe FrameMaker forum.

Move the original {scanned/photo} art, that you are rotoscoping, to its own layer, and lock that.

I've not seen this X artifact before (in my limit AI experience), but it appears that the original art may be being selected, is not really editable.

Hello @cherie_MI99,

Thanks for reaching out. Would you mind double-clicking on the object you're trying to edit to see if it helps? It should switch you to isolation mode, helping you edit with ease (https://adobe.ly/3BrUkKI). Once done, hit the Escape key on your keyboard to exit the mode.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav

In addition to what Anubhav wrote, you could also check whether it is a group and if it is, ungroup it. That could be easier for editing. When you select it, it Object > Ungroup would be active.
