I can't create a new file in Illustrator CC 2018

I recently downloaded Illustrator CC 2018 and have not been able to create a new file since with the new version of Illustrator. I can open old files without any problems. But when I want to open a new file (⌘ N) the window opens and when I then click "OK" nothing happens.

Which system is it?

"Nothing happens" means: the New file window doesn't react?

Try hitting the return or enter key a few times, click on OK again - does that help? Just cancel it and then try File > New again?

Is your workspace set up with the application frame? If not, can you please try that?

Also: after closing the new file dialog, is there an entry at the end of the "Window" menu? Trying to find out if Illustrator doesn't create a file at all or if the window is just hidden somewhere.

I suppose you have already tried to just do File > New a second time after it doesn't succeed?

When was the last time you restarted the computer?

Did you already reset the preferences?

Any issues when installing?

Can you create a new file from template?

I'm sorry but I'm using Illustrator in German so I don't know what an application frame is...

I haven't found any window hidden or otherwise.

Yes, I have restarted and retried, but always with the same result.

I can't remember any issues when installing.

I can open an existing file and save it as a new file, if that's what you mean by creating a file from template...?

Der application frame ist Fenster > Anwendungsrahmen.

Beim Zurücksetzen der Voreinstellungen werden alle Presets neu geschrieben. Das geht mit Cmd+Alt+Shift drücken beim Starten von Illustrator. Es gibt noch eine schonende Methode, aber wenn das eine frische Installation ist, dann sollte ohnehin nichts vorhanden sein, was man eventuell behalten möchte. Oder ist da irgendwas von früher? Was selbst installiertes?

Datei > Neu aus Vorlage - geht das?

Jetzt hats geklappt!

Cmd+Alt+Shift gedrückt halten beim Anklicken von Illustrator, dann auf neu erstellen und es erschien endlich ein neues Dokument.

Es ist allerdings nicht normal, dass nach einer Neuinstallation erstmal die Voreinstellungen kaputt sind. Ich würde das beobachten. Falls sich die Voreinstellungen öfter zerlegen, kann das ein Hinweis auf schwerwiegendere Probleme sein.

Außerdem ist es später sehr nervig, alles neu anlegen zu müssen, weil man ja doch ein paar Dinge einstellt. Es kann sinnvoll sein, sich zu diesem Zweck eine Kopie des Voreinstellungsordners anzulegen. Dann kann man kaputte Einstellungen schnell ersetzen. Ich habe hier eine Übersicht, welche Einstellungen wo gespeichert werden:

Der Ordner, der durch den Kurzbefehl ersetzt wurde, enthält eine ganze Reihe dieser EInstellungen und liegt im Benutzerordner:
