Illustrator 2019 taking too long to save in Windows 1809

Illustrator 2019 (27.0.3) started taking at least 60x longer to save in Windows 1809!

Since posting I realise it is happening with some files only. They are simple files but I can't figure out why they are are causing AI to crawl.

Here is an example:

Dropbox - rat-ico-green.ai

A simple A4 page with a rectangle or text will save no problem.

As soon as I place something or paste something into that simple file it goes from taking 1-2 seconds to taking over 2 minutes to get to the save dialog!

Process:

1. Draw text, rectangles, curves -> save as -> 1-2 seconds -> save dialog -> click OK -> done

2. continue with above file -> Paste jpeg (or place jpeg) -> save as -> 2+ minutes! -> save dialog -> click OK -> done

3. continue with 2. -> Delete previous jpeg -> save as -> 1-2 seconds -> save dialog -> click OK -> done

4. continue with 3. -> paste ellipse only from rat-ico-green.ai (above) -> save as -> 2+ minutes! -> save dialog -> click OK -> done

BTW resetting prefs made no difference.

Illustrator has become unusable!

After much mucking around I finally solved it by switching my default printer to PDF.

The Windows update must be incompatible with my installed printer driver. Somehow my default printer driver is affecting Illustrator.

The printer still seems to work no problem on the system, but Illustrator doesn't like it any more.

Where do you save your files?

Is a printer connected, set up as the default printer and turned on?

Thanks. All files saved locally. Default printer connected and switched on.

Do you save to a synchronized folder?

Is the animation feature in your desktop background picture turned on?

No to both.

Same deal with trying to print btw. AI "Not Responding" for up to 2 min before print dialog shows up.

Only just started happening after Windows 1809 update.

You might need to reset the preferences.

Rename the folder so you can revert in case it doesn't help: How to set preferences in Illustrator

If that doesn't work either, please contact Customer Care. They can login to your computer to check things out: Contact Customer Care

Does this also apply for files saved without PDF Compatibility?

It applies before the print dialog box even opens. Therefore before I can even uncheck PDF compatibility
