illustrator 2021 quit when using spacebar in OS Monterey

Several apps are stealing keypresses. And also check your system for shortcuts. And your antivirus (in case you are using one) - it might be set up to interfere.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind sharing the version of the Illustrator? Do you see this behavior while working on another Adobe app?
Please try turning off "Enable Full Keyboard Access" option under Apple Menu > System Preferences > Accessibility.

Same has been happening since update. I needed to go back a version in AI and everything is now all better. 
Next need to figure out how to turn off auto update. 
do happy this worked. It's so frustrating when you need to get your work done.

Go to System Settings, Accessibilty, Select Keyboard in the sidebar, under Navigation tab "Enable Full Keyboard Acess" not checked.
