Illustrator 2025 29.1 Editing text font changes bug

Using the latest AI version 29.1

When I click in into an existing text box and edit the copy - the font is changed for the new typed text. It doesn't maintain the font of the text that I am editing.

Bug? Any ideas why?

I was so hopeful the update I did last night would fix this, but nope. Good grief. This is slowing me down daily. Any other ideas for a work around would be most welcome, as nothing from the suggestions listed here has worked for me (but a hearty "thank you!" to those jumping in with ideas).

Amazing really. They have only been aware of it since November. Something with the recent update seems to have bricked the old AI for me too.

One other workaround is to setup your typography in InDesign and import it from there. InDesign handles type loads better anyway, which is a whole other topic.

What are you doing Adobe? Seriously..
