Hello,
I was so exited when I discoverd the Retype-tool, however, I can't get it to work at all. I select the image (or the outlined text if it's in vector), and I click enter and all I get is this:
Super bummed, cause it would be so usefull if I could get it to work. Any suggestions?
Thank you all for providing the information. I've consulted with the product team, and they suggest trying to incorporate English OCR. Here are the steps to follow:
Hi @Filip Bl. @forme24654414hwer @AstrantiaMajor @Vadim274907060f3j,
I've logged a bug with the product team, and they are currently investigating the issue. They have requested a few details which would be really helpful in depicting the issue like:

Can you show your outlined text? Just a section?
When the text is distorted, or when the font is too far off from standard lettershapes, then it probably fails.

It doesn't matter which text, it never works. Here's just a random image, where I tried it.

I don't have an issue with it.

Hi @AstrantiaMajor,
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with the Retype (beta) tool. Let's try to get it working for you. Here are some things to consider:
Retype (beta) currently supports Latin scripts only. If your text is not in a Latin script, that could explain the issue.
If you're using macOS 11, font identification from the image should work fine. However, to be able to edit the text, consider updating to macOS 12 or a higher version.
To fully utilize Retype (Beta), you need to install the Retype module. After the download is complete, you'll receive a confirmation message indicating a successful installation.
If you've checked all these points and are still encountering issues, please provide us with the following details:
With this information, we'll be able to investigate the issue further and provide you with the right solution. Thank you for your cooperation.
Best regards,
Anshul Saini

Having the same issue! Nothing comes up for anything I have tried for months in the beta and now in the main channel.

Hi @Leszek2019,
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with the Retype (beta) tool. Let's try to get it working for you. Do you recall if you installed the Retype module when it was initially used for the first time?
Also, would you mind providing us with the following details:

Dear Anshul.
Today I uninstalled illustrator and reinstalled it. I couldn't use the Adobe file anymore so I did a simple test.
1. I wrote ADOBE as text (in Arial font so that RETYPE can easily recognize it)
2. I changed the text to paths.
3. I marked the paths and downloaded RETYPE
4. The checkmark shows that it cannot recognize the text.
Sample file attached.
My OS details:
Intel i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.41 GHz
No separate GPU
32GB RAM
Windows 10 22H2 x64
On my Home PC it's the same thing and there is this OS:
Intel Core i5-6500 3.2GHz
AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB
32GB RAM
Windows 10 22H2 x64

I have the same problem as user @Leszek2019 .
The Retype function does not work, unfortunately no text is recognized. No matter in which font, no matter if as image (png, jpeg) or as paths / vector graphics, nothing is recognized. But text2vectorgraphic works fine.

@Monika Gause , Am no longer at the pc, but i have tried a bunch of images and outlined text in different fonts (all latin). i can post screenshots a little later if you like. But it is like @Leszek2019 already says: it's not working even with the Adobe example file.

So I made a screenshot from those samples - couldn't download the file. I don't think Illustrator found the right ones, but it found fonts.
In my own tests I got issues with fonts that were too far from looking like letters and with photos of packaging (although the font was Lobster). This kind of stuff doesn't work for me:

@Anshul_Saini @Monika Gause I'm still unable to get it to function. I also tried it on my other computer, which has Windows 11, but it didn't work. The retype module and Illustrator v28.0 have already been reinstalled, but nothing changed. Could it be that I'm using CC's German version? But from what I can tell, Monika, you also use the German version?

It seems that this feature is only available for the English version. Adobe cheerfully ignores the huge number of users who use Danish, German, Spanish, Finnish, Filipino, Czech, French, Hungarian, Italian, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Turkish, Swedish... And of course no mention that in those languages this feature is just a marketing gimmick.

Based on some screen shots posted above it sure looks like Retype is available in other language versions than English.

Technically, this feature is in the Czech version of Illustrator. But it doesn't do anything. I've tried both Mac and PC versions, both behave a bit differently (in one case I can see the font suggestions but I can't click on them, in the other case it throws the message Selection not recognized). I've reported the bug here, you can also vote there: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-desktop-bugs/suggestions/47341301-retype...
