Illustrator distorting outlined text

Hi, I've been having issues with my illustrator over the last few months. When I open a vector file that has outlined text, the text is horribly distorted. This happens with .svg, .ai and .eps files. Every time the file is opened, it distorts differently. (See example below)
My illustrator and mac are both updated.

My client is experiencing the same. I provided logo master files (vector EPS, PDF, SVG). When they place in Illustrator, it distorts the letter forms. The text was outlined.

That is pretty wacky looking. Is there anything usual about the artwork? Is it large or very tiny? I've seen small details in PDF files, such as tiny ® registered trademark symbols, get badly garbled at small point sizes.

Are the letters distorted in outline view as well? If not the problem might point to a graphics card/board driver issue.

Thanks for your prompt reply. The vector files were supplied in outline. They display perfectly for me - either opening the original or placing the original. The previous attachment was the client screenshot. This time I've attached the native files.

I asked the client what computer and version of Illustrator they're using:

MSI Katana 15 B12VGK Laptop

Illustrator v 28.3

I've also asked them to screenshot their File Handling settings - currently awaiting.

File handling seems to be ok.

I asked them to try a copy and paste from the native file rather than placing which they've confirmed displays perfectly. So the behaviour seems to be with placing file.

I don't see any problems with the artwork on my end. It both opens and places into Adobe Illustrator just fine. When I place the PDF it does display a raster preview rather than vector. Flattening transparency brings out the vectors and they look alright in GPU Preview and Outline view. I suspect some combination of bug with the computer's graphics board/chipset driver and that version of Adobe Illustrator. They should check for driver updates.

What are they doing with those files and does any of their workflows include an SVG?
