Which version is it?

Which system?

Where are the files located?

What kind of files are the linked files?

Do those JPEGs also cause errors when you initially place them?

Where do they come from?

Does it help when you open them in Photoshop and then save again?

Does that happen with only certain files or all of your files randomly?

This could also point to corruption:

- of your document(s)

- Illustrator's preferences

- your harddisk

This happens with all of my files randomly( jpeg and phd). The files are not cause any problems when I place them or when I relink them. But when I open again the file I am getting the same message and the jpeg or psd files have to be relinked.

OK, I would then proceed to the possbile corruptions.

You could start with the preferences: rename the folder to make Illustrator create new ones (you have to quit it first. https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html

It probably won't hurt to check the disk using an appropriate application software. On the Mac there is one in the Utilities folder. Please do read the documentation, there should be plenty to find about how to check your harddisk.
