Illustrator file missing elements

Hi all!

I had recently been working on a file with lots of different types of Christmas theme illustrations and saving it as I went. I recently opened the file after a few weeks and the majority of the work is missing from the file. There are still the orignal images I had added for some inspiration but all of the new vector work I did has disappeared. I always save as I do work so I really don't know what happened or if I can get it back! Any ideas or suggestions would be most welcome! Thank you

The missing files are bitmaps as I guess. You need to relink them. Usually I keep such a files as packages. File->Package.

Thanks for the reply. How could I relink them if they are missing? The existing images that were copied are there and they aren't having any issues with being linked. It's the actual vector images that I created with the pen tool that have all disappeared

So what did get saved? An older version of the file?

Where did you save it?

It is saved on my desktop and really old vectors that were copied in are still there and other images. All the new work I did which I had being saving as I went along but isn't there anymore

So recent changes to the file didn't get saved?

There is an issue with the option "Save in background" that can cause this under whatever circumstances. So can you turn off that setting?

sorry I am only replying to this now! I just reopened the file to do what you said and voila, everything is back on it! I didn't even need to do anything so it must have been a bug or a glitch! Thanks for your help 🙂

Maybe you have accidentally had the DeLight after TheFright, also known as the ReLief after TheGrief, Addon activated by mistake.

Sometimes, some strangenesses can vanish when you close down and reopen the document/application/PC.
