Illustrator lagging when using brushes

I have a new Mac Studio M1 Max with 64gb ram and 24 gpu. Im running Ventura 13.1. I have Illustrator 27.3.1 (Apple Silicon/Intel). Whenever I use brushes in my artwork the lag becomes so slow its unusable. The file sizes range from 50-150mb. Even when I created a new document with a simple vector and one brush there was lag when I wanted to move or copy and paste that item.
