Illustrator not allowing me to move or manipulate anchor points with direct selection tool

Hey Guys,

I am an avid illustrator user, i've been using it for more than 10 years pretty much every day. Today I was trying to manipulate a vector image, and when i click on the anchors, there is a light grey line that goes around the object, and does not allow me to manipulate the points. I can still use the control handles on the anchor to manipulate it, but it is like the anchor itself is locked in space. Any object i click on now has the same problem.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Andrew

It appears that you have selected the object starting with "C...". Is it a compound path or something else?

Try going into Isolation mode first, then deselect, then use the Direct Selection tool again.

I've moved your post from Creative Cloud desktop to the Adobe Illustrator forum.

If I unlock everything on my document I can move points, but I need some guides to stay locked so this has really been frustrating me.

Just found this post. I unchecked the "select and unlock objects on canvas" setting in selection and anchor display, and it is now letting me do what I want. It seems like it is a bug.

Hey,

I contacted Adobe and they came into my computer and deleted some files.
They were quick and didn’t catch what was deleted in my Adobe settings. But
it was something from the last update.

I would reach out to them. They were helpful and it has been fine so far.

Hi! I've been having this same issue. So happy to hear it's solvable!!
But I just contacted them, and the only solution was to report the bug...

Can i ask what channel you used to reach out to them? Or do you remember what were the files they deleted?
Thank you!

I used the Adobe chat feature where you talk to an agent on their website.
Then they came in and deleted a recent update. It fixed it instantly. I
haven’t had any issues since. I would go on and talk to a technician. We
ended up calling and talking on the phone as they walked through my
computer. It was helpful as I could show them in real time in illustrator
what was happening and they reproduced the error in front of me on my
computer.

Hope this helps.
