Illustrator not opening text in old files

As soon as I open an older file in illustrator the text doesn't appear. I highlight it and try to edit it and it doesn't seem to have text in there at all to even highlight or extract.

What type of font is being used in the old files? Any old Type 1 fonts? What OS and version?

The type is source sans pro. As far as I remember I can't see any type 1 fonts being used. My OS is windows 11 on Surface book.

Are the fonts disectly installed on the Surface book or are you relying on remote fonts?

They are relying on the remote fonts.

Check if turning off your antivirus makes a difference.

Are these activated from Adobe Fonts?

I made sure all the fonts were activated through the creative cloud desktop. There is no message for the missing font just a about missing photos.

If you look at your files in Outline  mode (View > Outline) do you see any (maybe outlined) text?

I uninstalled and reinstalled illustrator and that seemed to work.
