Illustrator PDF opening as normal Pdf

An Illustrator file I've been working on that was saved as a pdf Is not opening as a regular pdf in Illustrator. What I mean is that it's not editable anymore. It opens the pages as links. I did open the pdf and saved it as an Illustrator file again but the pages are still links. How do I open this pdf Illustrator file, and edit all the components individually in each page just like before? Thank You

Looks like the file was not saved with Illustrator editing capabilities. That means it is no longer possible to edit them with th full editing options.

Why don't your save your files as .ai when your working on them?
