Illustrator plugin - How to export Artboard as PDF or AI

I have a 3rd party plugin and my export from Artboard to the plugin currently exports as .aic file. In the plugin app, I am able to open only PDF or AI extensions.

Is there a way that export can specify which format to be exported as (PDF or AI instead of AIC)

So you are developing the plugin or using it?

I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly, so maybe my suggestion is not useful. But you can save your artboards (with option 'save each artboard to a separate file') in a folder. Then you have separate .ai files. If you need .pdf files, you can batch an action (save as .pdf) on that .ai files folder.

If you want to 'export' directly from Illustrator (to your plugin?), you can export PDFs via 'Export for screens'. You can also generate PDFs with 'Export As' via the Asset Export. (You can set the PDF type and specifications in the settings). However ... Asset Export is based on your selection (artwork) and not based on Artboards ...
