Maybe it's shortcut (Alias) to application. If you made some updates - you can lost connection from shortcut to app.

It seems updates occurred on my computer Now the icons for Illustrator and Photoshop are just question marks. What do I do?

If you are talking about the Dock on a Mac, if you installed the updates with the option to remove older versions, the icons for the old apps in the Dock are no longer valid aliases, hence showing question marks. You will need to open each new verson and re-add the icon to the Dock.

Sorry to hear about this trouble. This looks like an installation error. Please uninstall Illustrator and Photoshop using cleaner tool ( https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html ) and reinstall the application from Creative Cloud.

Don't uninstall, just look for the newer version in your Macintosh HD > Applications and remove the older icons.
