Illustrator's Radial Repeat mouse controls don't respond

I'm able to repeat radially normally, but cannot edit the same way most tutorials say I should be able to:

When using radial repeat, my image repeats in a circle just like it is supposed to, and along the radius, I see two sets of controls, a single dot at the top that is supposed to change the radius, and a set of arrowed half dots at the bottom that is supposed to clear away some of the repeated shapes.

Neither of those controls works at all, and don't respond to being selected or clicked on. I have the controls at the top of the screen that seem to work just fine, so I can manually change the amount of repeats and the radius, but that's pretty clumsy compared to just clicking and dragging.

Why can't I select the radius and 'sweep' controls? I am on 26.0.3 and on a PC with Windows 10. Thanks!!

Is this on one particular doc? Or are you able to reproduce same non-function in a new doc?

Either way, as a first step, I would try a prefs reset...
