Illustrator 'Show In Finder' function for links is broken

Explorer ,
May 12, 2025 May 12, 2025

Unlike InDesign, this function does go to the folder, but it doesn't select the file.

I assume this is a bug and not how Adobe intends it to work.

Hi Robert32194799hqfj,

Thank you for reaching out. I am unable to reproduce the issue on my Mac. When I clicked Show in Finder, it took me to the folder with the selected file. Would you mind creating a short video of the issue and sharing it with us? Please also share the details of your operating system and the version of Illustrator installed on your machine.

Does that happen to all files or with a specific file?

Could you please try to replicate the behavior in a new file?

We will try our best to help.

Thanks,

Harshika

Hi @Robert32194799hqfj,

Thank you for your patience and the screen recording.

I tested the "Reveal in Explorer" function on my Windows machine and I was able to reproduce the issue. Illustrator opens the folder, but does not highlight/select the linked file, unlike how it works in InDesign.

I've escalated this to our product team for further investigation and will keep you posted with any updates as soon as I hear back.

Please let me know if you notice any additional behavior or have further questions in the meantime.

Abhishek Rao

Hi @Robert32194799hqfj,

Thanks again for sharing the screen recording and following up. I reached out to the product team regarding this, and they've confirmed that it's a known issue internally. The team is actively working on a fix.

I'll make sure to keep you posted as soon as I hear any updates from them.

Appreciate your patience in the meantime, and please feel free to reach out if you notice anything else or have further questions!

Abhishek

Hi @Abhishek Rao thanks for the update.

Please let me know when there's a fix. This has been an issue ever since they launched the 'Show in Finder' function. Something tells me they didn't test this or couldn't get it working and thought they could get away with it..

It is indeed different, it goes to the folder but does not highlight the file.
