I am working on Windows 11, latest version of Creative Clod and now and then my AI has a weird bug - the text I type and copy paste changes letters to some random ones, like some sort of offset or so. But I have not applied anyeffects to the text. Restarting Illustrator helps, but this is very irritating, how do I prevernt it from happening?

Did you already reset the preferences?
Does that happen with all fonts?

I had to restart my whole computer twice for this to go away. This has happened a few times since and the only way was also to restart the whole system. I would really love to know why does it keep happening and is there a better way to fix it.

Hi @me0D45,
I hope Monika's suggestion to reset the preferences helped. If the issue still occurs, please share the exact version of Illustrator you are using and confirm whether it happens with all fonts or just specific ones. You can also try disabling any third-party font managers or testing the behavior in Safe Mode: https://adobe.ly/41FNzPo. Sometimes a corrupted font cache in Windows can cause random character changes, so clearing the cache and reinstalling the affected fonts may help. Reference: https://adobe.ly/3JeAdU0.
If possible, please share screenshots showing the problem, so I can better understand it.
Looking forward to your update.

I am using Illustrator 29.8.1, this seems to be happening to different fonts, and my colleague using the same version has recently had the same issue. We do both use Windows, but interestingly this only happens in Illustrator and no other products. Once it happens again I will share the screenshots.

Hello @me0D45,
Could you confirm if this happens with all files, and share a small screen recording of your exact workflow and the problem, so we can better assist you?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
