Hi,
I'be using Adobe IIllustrator for years and using Code39 barcode fonts. My current version of Illustrator V27.5 is not listing the barcode fonts. Last week they were in the list and suddenly disappeared from the list in front of me.
I rebuilt the OS system font cache and no change. I even have re-installed the current version of Illustrator twice and still no change.
Adobe Photoshop doesn't even list the code39 barcode fonts but Adobe Acrobat V2023.001.20174 does list them.
Unfortunately I can't resize the barcode in Acrobat where I can in Illustrator.
Please advise what is causing Photoshop and Illustrator not to be listing the fonts.
So yes, it's a Type 1 font. Support for Type 1 fonts ended with the release of Illustrator 27.3:

You'll need to either find replacememt OpenType or TrueType fonts, or keep using Illustrator versions prior to 27.3.

Hello @DAMIEN30185651vok5,
We understand how frustrating technical issues can be. Could you kindly provide the name of the font you're using and a screen recording of the problem (https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/screen-record-an-issue-on-windows-amp-macos-f...)? This will allow us to investigate the issue on our end.
Also, try using the Libre Barcode 39 font (https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Libre+Barcode+39) and sharing your observations.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Anubhav

Hi Anubhav,
Apologies for the late reply. It's a very busy time in the company I work for. I couldn't use the Windows recording as it wouldn't allow me to switch between applications to show you the problem I've been having
I used Webex recording which shows you the problem.
Bascially, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop don't show the C39 barcodes we use by our company. But, Adobe Acrobat is able to show them.
Adobe Illustrator did show them a couple of weeks ago before they disappeared in front of my eyes. They were in the Adobe list table of fonts and just disappeared.
What I have done to date to resolve the issue.
Completely removed Windows Fonts cache to rebuild it. Uninstalled Illustrator completely and re-installed it. To date, the C39 barcode issue with Illustrator is still not showing in the Illustrator fonts list when going to choose the fonts.
I can't use other barcode fonts as the C39 is the only fonts, our company will allow to use.
We never had this issue with Illustrator not displaying barcode fonts. Any fonts installed in Windows fonts director, would be listed by Illustrator.
I would appreciate it, if you could get this issue resolved as soon as possible.
My work around, edit the media label in Illustrator and then go over to Acrobat to change the affected font to barcode.
Could an update to Illustrator or Windows have caused this issue?
Look forward to your reply

Hello @DAMIEN30185651vok5,
Sorry for the delayed response. I hope the problem is resolved by now. If not, kindly try updating to the latest version of Illustrator and checking if it helps.
If the problem persists, kindly provide more details, like the Exact name of the Font / Foundry where the font was licensed from, so I can check this with the team.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Anubhav

Hi Anubhav,
Apologies for the late reply.
The problem still persists with illustrator not recognising the barcode font. I found that the Illustrator version 27.0.1 sees the barcode fonts but when we upgrade to Illustrator version 27.8.1, the update doesn't see the barcode fonts.
I enquired about the fonts and no one knows who acquired them as they have been used for over 20years now with no issues with adobe products until now.
See attached file to show that the early version of Illustrator sees the barcode fonts and the latest update doesn't. Definitely an update issue.
Could you present this issue to your dev dept to resolve?
Our solution at the moment is to resize a font to be changed to barcode in Illustrator and use Acrobat to change to the barcode.
Regards,
Damien

If you are not familiar with font technology, please send screenshots of the files you loaded, and where you get the fonts from.

What is the source of these fonts? I tried other Code 39 fonts without issue, but perhaps there is some specific problem with these fonts.

Hi Doug,
The font we mainly use is C39P12Dh. The filename of the font is V100004.pfm. Windows reports it as True Type Font 1. We have the fonts for years and worked with all Ilustrator versions until 27.8.1 update. I don't know where they were purchased from.

Windows reports it as True Type Font 1.

Could this be a Type 1 font synonym? I'm not a font expert so unsure. It would make sense though as the topic does coincide with the end of type 1 font support.
