Illustrator window often is hidden behind other windows, even if it should be on top.

I often have multiple windows open in Windows 10...like a web browser and email and perhaps some File Explorer wndows as well as a window for Illustrator CS5. Well, at times, I would be using it, naturally is the window on top...but sometimes, It falls under the other windows...and even click the tab on the task bar, doesnt bring it to the front. I literally have to minimize each window til I can see the Illustrator window, and when clicking on the window itself, not the tab, will bring it to the front again. I even had it fall behind the other windows with no warning. Is there a reason it does this? It is quite annoying when I'm looking resources or something to to help with a image an working on, or even just checking emails or someone messages me, and trying to bring it back to the front via clicking on the tab, for it to not work

Hope that explains it...I had this problem a long time, just wasnt sure how to articulate it properly...even when trying to google it, get results way off from what am looking for...and feel am just not wording the inquiry correctly.

Thanks

I reset Illustrator in preferences - General - Reset Preferences.

It's cleared the issue up for me. Good luck!

Xasis,

I am afraid you will have to count yourself lucky to have CS5 running under Windows 10 at all, so you can expect all sorts of strangenesses, or worse, and hope Illy (job description Adobe Illustrator) stays afloat.

I'm having the same issue on my 2019 Macbook Pro...it only started doing in the past few months which leads me to believe it's an illustrator update issue or an OS update issue. When I click on the illustrator window to reposition it, it drops behind other windows I have pulled up. OS Ventura 13.3.1 (a). Illustrator 2023. It's not detrimental...just super annoying and kinda jams up my workflow. I keep all windows open on my desktop and do the two finger double tap on my apple mouse to toggle between windows. As a product designer I'm usually working across multiple programs. As I said, just really annoying more than anything else. Whomp whomp.

Me too. It's just started happening. Possibly when I upgraded to Ventura. I've no idea how to fix it. It's really annoying. Anybody out there that can help?

I have this problem too – so annoying. On two Macs both running Ventura and with latest version of Illustrator.

I've got the same issue with Adobe Photoshop now. It's clearly a Mac/Adobe compatability issue that they need to sort. Does it happen on PC's?

Hello @Michelle34338707pza7 & others,

I apologize for the previous suggestion not working. Let's try the following:

Switch your workspace to the "Layout" preset:

    • Go to the top menu.
    • Select "Window."
    • Choose "Workspace."
    • Select "Layout" from the preset options.

This might help in adjusting the window arrangement. If the issue persists, please let me know so I can provide further assistance.

best,

Anshul Saini
