Illustrator won't open any files

Hi 

So I'm simply trying to open files. 

I can open files when I start up Ai - as it's the Ai 'homepage' where it shows my cloud docs. I select the one I want and it opens fine. 

Then I want to open another file using CMD+O, or by going to File>Open - but nothing. No response whatsoever.  

New file works fine, but the new file window does not give you options to select any saved docs. 

Opening recents also works, so I can reach files from there but again only recent ones. 

Frustrating to say the least. 

Not sure if it matters but I have reacently upgraded my Mac (macbook pro 2021) and it's been glitchy with uploading attachemnts to emails and sites on Chrome (could be a completely seperate issue but thought i'd mention)

I'm not on a Mac but try making a new user profile on the mac and logging in to that...

Worked!

I was against using a new profile as of course want to use my own - but running Ai on the other profile and coming back to my own seemed to set something back into line
