Illustrator won't save as a pdf

Why won't illustrator save a simple file as a pdf as of Late March 2022.  It allows me to save it as an Illustrator file but won't save as a pdf.  When I click to save my illustrator file as a pdf all I get is a ding sound and at that point I can't even close Illustrator.

This happens when you do not have a printer chosen, or the printer chosen is corrupted. Delete the printer you have and add back again.
