I am in a conundrum. I have been using CS5 and earlier version ofd illustrator for over 20+years to acheive perfect vector tracing (with NO adjustments needed to be made). Now, since I run the newer silicon macs, the older CS5 version that I own, will not run on the mac. Ive tried EVRYTHING to get the same results a the one-click trrace in cs5, with no avail. I really need to get back the CS5 quailty, as it has affected my art significally.

The tracing engine was changed significantly between CS5 and CS6. There is no way to get 1:1 comparable results with the same settings between versions before and after the change.

I've just started using Illustrator and I'm really disappointed with the Image Trace feature. It doesn't seem to work at all with a lot of transparent PNGs. I've watched tutorials, searched all kinds of forums, everything and it just doesn't work. My image always ends up as just one big Image on a layer, exactly as when I started. The image has several separated areas with nothing between them and Illustrator is too dumb to see that. To make it worse, I used a free online vectorizing site and it only took a few seconds to give me an SVG that was grouped exactly like I needed it. That's sad.

Follow up:
I just found Adobe Express free Image to SVG converter page and it works as expected. Why in the world does Adobe's free website work and $$$ Illustrator does not? Now I'm really disappointed!

Ooops! I spoke too soon. I opened the wrong SVG file. The Adobe Express SVG was only one layer and completely white. It's broken too. Sounds like Adobe needs to hire some people from the other free websites. Ugh!

You need to expand the trace afterwards.
Maybe you just show us your template and the result?
Which tutorials did you watch?

OMG!!! There's 13 videos in that playlist! Why would I jump through all of those hoops when I can literally go to a free website and drop an image, wait a few seconds and then download a perfectly vectorized file????? Adobe needs to seriously overhaul their trace feature, it should be a one-click operation with the ability to change parameters for advanced images, NOT the other way around! Paid software shouldn't be WORSE than free alternatives!

Paid software allows professionals to adapt the options exactly to their needs. Can you post your template? Or do you just want to blame someone?
