Image trace v29.3 button not active to execute trace

Hi I'm a newbie and wanted to trace a png image. The "Enhance" is toggled on but still appears greyed out. When I then adjust anything in the panel the button to execute the trace is not functioning. The only trace I can achioeve is a very rudimentary black and white trace of the colourful image. Please help.
