Image trace whole shapes from a sketch

Community Beginner ,

Say I draw a shape by hand on paper and upload a photo of the drawing to illustrator. I would love for a tool to automatically trace the drawing to be shapes . Currently, Image Trace will make the line itself into a shape with many points.

This may be possible, but I haven't found an easy solution (save from tracing with the Pen tool). I have attached an example, but the images I need to vectorise are much more complex than this.

Thanks!

Image trace has no intelligence to determine that your paths are intended to be straight lines, or particular shapes. It's just a contrast-detecting process.

I haven't seen any autotrace do that so far.

Binkabu,

It (almost) certainly must have been under consideration for (quite) a while, as part of AI development.

Until it gets there, or till the end of time, whichever occurs first, you will have to do what you need as you just did.

Thank you for all of your replies. I've been doing this process for years and just wondered if there was a shortcut.

The most advanced thing Adobe has demonstrated in that area is probably this for Illustrator on the iPad (relevant part is later in the video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86gW-Eav82A

Would love to see that in the product.
