Is there a way to substitutes fonts automatically?

Hi there,

I frequently need to access and modify old files that contain Type 1 fonts. I have managed to obtain the Open Type version of these fonts. However, I am wondering if there is a way to replace all of the Type 1 fonts at once without going into the Find/Replace Fonts window to replace them one by one. Ideally, I would like Illustrator to automatically recognise the Open Type version and replace the fonts when I open the file. Thank you in advance.

Those fonts often have different names. So what Illustrator offers you, is already quite efficient. Or do you have to do the same assigning in a couple of files?

Yes, I have about 200 files to update in this batch. There are more to come. Each of these files has multiple weights of the typefaces used. So it would be great if there is a way to avoid doing this manually hundreds of times.

I have the exact same issue with multiple client files that are vintage dependant, i am having to adjust every single label individully instead of just being able to tell Adobe that there is a replacement and use that over all files. Very frustrating.

Monika,

What Ilustrator has provided is great for one file, when you work with multiple clients each with their own individual files and permutations of each it is am embarrasingly glaring issue. One file can have multiple fonts that need updating and times that by hundreds of files and it isnt difficult to see the issue. The simplicity of adobe allowing the mapping of a font like  AvantGardeGothicitcT Bold to the new ITC Avant Garde Gothis Bold and apply that through Creative Cloud would have been the easiest. It would be a one time mapping that would apply anytime Illustrator or any adobe product encountered an old font and you had downloaded the new accepted version.

You might have read my statement about multiple files ...

If you want that, I suppose you make a feature request. This is the community forum, we can't change anything.
